Without a track & field season this spring, were missing out on top athletes from the Metro Detroit area show off their talents. If the season had not been canceled, who would have owned the field events this spring?
We are turning to the fans to decide. Who is your choice for the top female field event athlete from Metro Detroit? Please check out the list below and vote in the poll at the bottom. Vote as often as you want and spread the word until 9 a.m. Friday.
NOTE: The results of the poll have no influence on any of MLive’s postseason honors and are strictly for bragging rights and to express fan appreciation.
Marche Borden, Detroit Martin Luther King
Junior
Borden was a region champion and PSL champion in the long jump, winning the latter with a PR mark of 17-feet-6.5. qualified for the state championships in the 100 meter hurdles and 300 hurdles as well.
Avery Budz, Dearborn Divine Child
Senior
She was runner-up at the Division 2 state championships last spring with a mark of 5-feet-2. She also won the Catholic League title, region title and MITCA D2 title in the event, collecting a PR of 5-feet-5 along the way. She was also a state qualifier in the 400 meter dash.
Brooke Coulter, Rochester
Senior
In discus last spring, Coulter hit a mark of 121-feet-0 to make All-County at the Oakland County Championships. After hitting a mark of 35-feet-5 last spring in shot put, she increased he PR indoors this winter to 36-feet-9.75. She also has an indoor weight throw mark of 48-feet-5.
Sarah Daniel, White Lake Lakeland
Senior
The school record holder in the long jump, Daniel set a PR of 18-feet-3 in the event last season, one of four times eclipising the 18-feet mark. She was also Lakes Valley Conference champion in the 100 meters with a time of 12.93.
Samari Finney, Warren Mott
Sophomore
Already an accomplished sprinter and jumper, she won the MAC Blue title in the long jump last spring and was runner-up at the Macomb County Championship with a PR of 17-feet-0.5. She also won MAC Blue titles in the 200 and 400 meters while finishing runner-up in the 100 meter at the Macomb County Championship.
Makayla Ford, Waterford Mott
Senior
Last year, Ford just missed out on making All-State in the shot put at D1 states with a distance of 37-feet-8.75, finishing ninth. She also as a PR of 111-feet-4.5 in discus.
Catelyn Gagnier, Grosse Pointe North
Junior
She set a PR of 11-feet-0 in the pole vault last spring and placed ninth at the D1 state finals with a height of 10-feet-3. She also owns a PR of 16-feet-3 in the long jump.
Autumn Glover, South Lyon East
Senior
Also an accomplished sprinter and hurdler, Glover excelled the most in long jump. At the D1 state championships, she broke the 18-feet barrier for the first time with authority, recording a third-place finish with a leap of 18-feet-6.5.
Sarah Griffin, Lake Orion
Senior
She was All-State in the poll vault last year with a fifth place finish and height of 10-feet-9 at the D1 championships. However, she won the Oakland County title with a height of 12-feet-0. She also qualified for states in the long jump and owns a PR of 17-feet-8.75 in the event.
Eriana Hubbard, Oxford
Sophomore
She took first at the Freshman Oakland County Championships last year and set a mark of 37-feet-5.25 earlier in the season. She has a PR in discus of 90-feet-6.
Kennedy Jackson, Walled Lake Western
Senior
One of the top track athletes in Michigan last year, Kennedy was the D1 state champion in the long jump with a mark of 18-feet-10.5. She set a new indoor personal best this winter with a leap of 19-feet-1.25. Last spring, she was also runner-up in high jump with a mark of 5-feet-4 and had a PR in the event of 5-feet-8. She was also all-state in the 100 meter hurdles, owning a PR of 14.36 in the event. He also was Lakes Valley Conference champion in the 200 and has a PR of 25.67 in the event.
Nysha Jordan, Oak Park
Junior
She won a D1 region championship in the long jump with a lead of 18-feet-0 last spring. She increased her long jump PR last summer with a leap of 18-feet-1.75.
Janan Khalil, Macomb Dakota
Junior
She tossed a PR by over five feet in the discus at last year's D1 state championships, finishing fourht with a mark of 130-feet-10. Khalil also has a PR of 32-feet-7.75 in the shot put.
Talia Krause, Harrison Township L’Anse Creuse
Sophomore
She won the Macomb County title in long jump as a freshman last spring, hitting a distance of 17-feet-1. She also runs the 400 and 200 meter dashes for the Lancers.
Zoe Madden, Grosse Pointe North
Senior
She was a D1 state qualifier in the long jump and long jump last year. She finished 10th at states with a mark of 17-feet-0.75 and set a PR of 17-4.5 earlier in the season. He PR in the high jump is 5-feet-1.
Micah Martin, Harrison Township L’Anse Creuse
Sophomore
She was the MAC Gold champion and D1 state qualifier in the high jump last year, notching a PR of 5-feet-6 along the way. She also qualified for states in the 100 meter hurdles and had a PR of 15.12.
Claire Matthews, Auburn Hills Avondale
Senior
She was undefeated in the long jump last season until the D1 state championships. She wont he OAA Red-White title with a leap of 17-feet-9 and won the region championships with a lead of 17.65.
Josie Ransley, Livonia Franklin
Junior
As a sophomore last year, she was All-State in the long jump with a new PR of 17-feet-5.25. He also has a PR of 4-feet-6 in high jump and participates in sprints.
Clayre Shaver, Milford
Senior
She placed 20th in discus at last year’s D1 state meet and set a PR of 119-feet-9 at the Oakland County Championships. She also set a PR of 35-feet-7.5 in shot put last spring.
Liv Urbano, Rochester Adams
Junior
She had a PR of 17-feet-4.75 last spring in the long jump, eventually qualifying for the D1 state championships in the event. She was also a member of Adams' state qualifying 4x800 team.
Makayla Ward, Salem
Senior
She was a D1 region and MITCA D1 meet champion in the high jump, makin a height of 5-feet-5 along the way. She took fourth at the D1 state meet with a jump of 5-feet-4. She also owns a PR of 16-feet-7.75 in long jump. She’s also a full-time hurdler.
