Anti-choice politicians must be stopped
As a former Mansfield resident, I must respond to the two anti-choice letters published April 19, by saying that defending your rights also includes the right of all women, non-binary, and transgender men to have an abortion. Anti-choice politicians cannot be allowed to use the coronavirus as an excuse to close clinics and attack those who just want to have a safe, legal abortion.
During this coronavirus pandemic, Ohio Attorney General Dave Yost stated he wanted to "rigidly enforce" and shut down clinics that provide abortion services and ordered two abortion providers to close because he considered it a "nonessential" procedure. Abortions are timely, and very much essential procedures, and abortions are statistically safer for women than giving birth.
Readers need to remember that when Gov. Mike DeWine was an Ohio attorney general and sued Planned Parenthood over fetal remains he lost because Planned Parenthood followed the law. When DeWine became governor, he signed a ban on abortions at six weeks and lost, as it was stopped by a lawsuit from the ACLU.
These anti-choice actions are particularly concerning because Governor DeWine and Attorney General Yost were both endorsed in 2018 by the Ohio Right to Life PAC prior to this pandemic. This proves that their health care motives may be more biased and political towards Ohioans who need abortion services. If you really want to protect your rights, and the rights of others, then please vote Democrat in November, and let anti-choice politicians know that you won’t let them take your rights away.
