Each year, I look forward to our Readers’ Choice Awards.
Tallying the votes is a lot of fun for me. I love analytics because they give us a great insight into what our readers like and think.
And the best part of Readers’ Choice is that it’s a celebration of our local businesses that work tirelessly to serve Fremont County.
This year, we tweaked our 50 categories. Some were removed based on voter interest from previous years.
But that doesn’t mean those categories won’t be back in the future. In fact, I’d like to see the annual contest expanded in the future with categories specifically for Florence, Penrose and Westcliffe.
This year marked a huge turnout for votes. We had almost 2,000 people vote in the contest, the majority online. And that turnout made for some competitive categories, including a contest that was won by a single vote.
While we had a few new winners from previous years, some businesses continue to thrive each year. Businesses that have won for 17 consecutive years include Nelsen’s Fine Jewelry, Palace Drug Store, Pizza Madness, City Market, and the law firm Fredrickson, Johnson and Belveal.
The Waffle Wagon has won for the past 15 years.
Also of note is Fourmile Veterinary Clinic, which won for best veterinary and garnered the most in this year’s contest.
Overall, it was a tremendous year, and we hope you continue to support these local businesses.
