Pitt’s student-athletes were honored Sunday evening for their achievement in athletics, as well as in the classroom and their community.
The Pitt athletics department recognized some of the university’s best and brightest in a virtual celebration as part of the fourth annual Panthers’ Choice Awards.
Herb Douglas, a 1948 Olympic medalist, presented the Heart of a Panther Award to Pitt gymnast Olivia Miller.
The coveted Panther Awards and Blue-Gold Awards also were presented. The recipients’ names will be engraved on the Varsity Walk between the Cathedral of Learning and Heinz Memorial Chapel.
Jimmy Morrissey, Patrick Jones II and Rashad Weaver from the football team; volleyball players Kayla Lund and Chinaza Ndee; and wrestler Jake Wentzel will each have their names engraved on the Varsity Walk.

Top Overall Academic Teams of the Year
Reserved for the male and female team with the highest cumulative GPA for the spring and fall semesters of 2020.

Presented to the team whose student-athletes demonstrate the strongest commitment to making an impact in the community.

Heart of a Panther Award
Presented to the student-athlete who best embodies the spirit of service through the Pitt Promise and is involved in the community above and beyond what is required.
• Winner: Olivia Miller (Gymnastics)
Olivia has demonstrated what it means to be a servant leader. As the SAAC Community Service Subcommittee Chair, she has been instrumental in helping us adapt to a virtual model. She has served the most hours of all student-athletes this year.
