Today’s Penn State football news is headlined by thoughts on the team’s quarterback situation and general overviews of the Lions now that they are 0-4.
Over at Nittany Sports Now, columnist Cory Giger was one of the many reporters around the web on Sunday who believes that there is no choice but to start Will Levis at quarterback the rest of the season after he replaced Sean Clifford during a 30-23 loss to Nebraska.
“We may have to play the silly waiting game all week as Franklin tries to keep Kirk Ferentz and Iowa guessing, but there should be no guess work involved,” Giger writes.
“Clifford lost the job, and that’s all there is to it.”
At Sports Illustrated, author Mark Wogenrich writes that PSU head coach James Franklin looks defeated after his team was defeated yet again during this pandemic-shortened season.
“James Franklin never sounds defeated. He did Saturday,” Wogenrich writes.
“After Penn State’s 30-23 loss to Nebraska, marking the first 0-4 start of his head-coaching career, Franklin went out-of-body, manufacturing answers to questions he couldn’t answer, framing fault around himself and then getting the heck out of his Zoom call. They were 12 of the least compelling minutes of Franklin’s career at Penn State.”
Statecollege.com says it’s fine to be frustrated with Penn State’s play but urges fans who want Franklin to move on to be careful what they wish for. The Lions made USA Today’s list of Week 11 losers, grades are in from the latest setback, and the first half confounded PSU’s defense again.
