Re “School choice, not affirmative action” (Nov. 15):

In a recent article published in the newspaper, Neal McCluskey of the Cato Institute cogently observed that “California needs school choice, not affirmative action.”

We could not agree more.

The 100-year progressive experiment in government education has failed miserably. Despite spending over $80 billion per year (over 40% of the state budget), California schools are now among the worst in the nation.

Rather than focus on academic improvement, government schools controlled by public employee unions devote class time to political indoctrination and urge sexual experimentation among children under the guise of “sex education.”

They undermine parental authority and relentlessly attack the very idea of America and the Judeo-Christian principles upon which it was founded. Enough.

Parents must be able to take their tax money and send their children to a school of their choice, not the politicians.

It seems President Obama will do anything for more applause after office

It isn’t enough that our former President Barack Obama wrote a 700-page autobiography … 29 hours on audio tape … but  he has to gain more attention by acquiring the rights to Michael Lewis’ book “The Fifth Risk” and produce a comedy series on Netflix called “The G Word.”

Guess what this comedy series is about. It’s about the chaos that erupted after the 2016 election of President Trump. The idea that a former president of the United States has to belittle and make fun of another president in order to make himself feel better about himself is beyond appalling to me.

Needless to say, Netflix  has one less subscriber.

Party-line votes

Re “Party-line votes lead to some very bad results” (Nov. 25):

Nicholas Berger’s letter about how all those Democrats are voting party-line and so voted an anti-union zealot out of office, did it ever dawn on Mr. Berger that maybe there were enough pro-union votes in that district to vote that anti-union zealot out of office?
