The first round of the Oklahoma high school football playoffs included exceptional performances.
The Oklahoman's Fans' Choice Player of the Week poll for the top games by OKC-area players is now live. Fans can vote before it closes at 1 p.m. Tuesday. Results of the poll will appear in Wednesday’s edition of The Oklahoman.
Here are the candidates for the city-area Fans' Choice Player of the Week:
Zane Chavez, TE, Westmoore: He had six catches for 107 yards and a touchdown in the Jaguars’ 41-17 victory against Southmoore. Chavez, a junior and Westmoore’s backup quarterback, also completed a 39-yard pass on a trick play.
Dominique Dunn, RB, Mustang: The senior has a thing for playing against Yukon. He rushed 33 times for 289 yards and three touchdowns, dominating in a 42-21 win against the Millers.
Corey Metscher, RB/LB, Bethel: He rushed for 200 yards on 24 carries with two touchdowns, had a 34-yard reception and nine tackles with a fumble recovery to help Bethel top Comanche 27-0 for its first playoff win in school history.
Amaurion Norment, RB, Putnam North: Putnam North got its first playoff win in Class 6A-II behind a huge performance from Norment, who had 26 carries for 260 yards and three touchdowns in a 31-6 win against Bartlesville.
Nate Nuthman, DB/WR, Christian Heritage: The senior returned an interception 57 yards for a touchdown. Offensively, he had two catches for 87 yards and one touchdown. On special teams, Nuthman had three punt returns with a 34-yard average.
Andrew Shumard, QB, Newcastle: The senior completed 11 of 26 passes for 149 yards and one touchdown. He also ran for two touchdowns to bring Newcastle from behind to win.
