Each of us calls Washington County home and we spend our days serving our communities as elected officials and advocates. We have a deeply vested interest in ensuring the next senator of District 15 will fight for our communities, especially as we continue to navigate a global pandemic.
Now that we know who’s in the race, the choice is very clear to us: Lamar Wise should be appointed as senator for District 15.
Wise has the experience and tenacity necessary to fight for our priorities in the Senate, and will be a fierce leader for the investments, policies and systems that Washington County needs.
We deserve to have leaders at every level of government who represent the diversity of our communities. Senate District 15 contains Forest Grove, Cornelius and Hillsboro, and in our last census, 45% of residents identified as Black, Indigenous, and/or people of color. If chosen, Wise will be the first Black senator to ever serve this district and one of only a handful of Black individuals to ever serve in Oregon’s Legislature.
We urge our Washington County commissioners to make this an opportunity to center equity and be clear that they value the lived experiences and leadership of those most impacted in our community by appointing Lamar Wise as the next senator for District 15.

Lopez is a member of the Hillsboro School Board. Dorsey is interim executive director of Washington County Ignite. Mundy is executive director of the Coalition of Communities of Color.
