Brenda Nelms, president of the nonprofit Jackson Park Watch, said she doesn’t want the presidential center to take over what she finds to be a nature sanctuary in a bustling city. As one of the 88 consulting party groups in the federal review process’ memorandum, Jackson Park Watch plans to oppose it, Nelms said. The group is expected to clamor for the FHWA to reconsider the 235-foot-tall museum’s design and the presidential center’s location entirely, as well as demand more public parkland to make up for the 19.3 acres the center would take up, she said.
