COLUMBIA -- The Columbia Public School Board of Education presented their updated COVID-19 plan for the 2020-21 school year at a meeting Monday evening.
The updated plan leaves families the choice of regular, 5 days a week, in-person learning, or online learning.
.@PStieple just announced CPS will allow students and families two options in 2020-21 school year. 1) They can opt in to regular school hours, in-person, 5 days a week. 2) They will do completely online work. @KOMUnews

Families will choose their option in July. They will be able to switch at certain checkpoints throughout the year.
For in-person classes, schools would follow social distancing measures that have the same students in the same classroom, day after day, which creates a 'stable group'. The measures include assigned seats with separation in the classroom. Students won't be able to leave the classroom. They would also eat in the room.
Education online for elementary students will be instructed by CPS teachers using curriculum written and supported by The University of Missouri. Secondary online learning will also be taught by CPS teachers, using online coursework.
Once parents/guardians chose either in-person, or online instruction, the number of CPS teachers will be determined.
If there is a school closure due to COVID-19, in-school courses will move to online instruction performed by the in-person teacher.
Guardians will receive an email by June 22 detailing what in-person and online learning will look like for the 2020-21 school year.
