PEORIA (Heart of Illinois ABC) - Last Monday, a leak revealed the Supreme Court was considering overturning Roe vs. Wade, the landmark abortion rights decision. Now, locals are making their stance known alongside many nationwide, as outrage grows regarding the possible outcome.

Dozens of protestors gathered at the intersection of University and Main in Peoria Saturday afternoon, toting signs and shouting chants in support of women’s rights. It’s part of an effort to gather a mass movement against the potential decision.

Organizers say they want to take the passion and emotions people felt, and advocate to hold lawmakers accountable.

“We can make no changes without the work of community action, without the work of people coming together and advocating for a cause together,” says organizer Nakota Facker.

Facker — a healthcare worker herself — says she believes women are entitled to abortion rights.

“Now is a more important time than ever for us to be fighting for federal legislation and constitutional legislation to protect abortion rights,” she adds.
