Texas running back Bijan Robinson told reporters he has been cleared for action since late February after he suffered a season-ending elbow injury during Texas' overtime loss to Kansas in November. Robison's elbow was dislocated in the incident, marking what Robinson said was the first significant injury of his football playing career.

"About a month ago," Robinson said of when he was cleared. "So that was really my first major injury. I never got injured before. But just when it happened, it was unexpected. I was trying to pop (my elbow) back in so I could keep playing, but obviously, I couldn't. And then when I saw it, it was out of place. So the trainers came and, at the time, I couldn't really feel it because my adrenaline was going. But the next day, there was some pain."

Robinson, a former five-star prospect in the 247Sports Composite Player Rankings, was enjoying a breakout season as one of college football's premier running backs before the injury shut him down with just two games remaining in the regular season. Robinson totaled 1,127 rushing yards and 11 rushing touchdowns in 2021 before the injury occurred.

Between now and being cleared to return, much has changed on Texas' staff in regards to Robinson's position. Tashard Choice was hired as the Longhorns' running backs coach, replacing Stan Drayton after Drayton departed to become the head coach at Temple. Robinson says he has enjoyed the transition to a new position coach through the opening week of spring practice for the Longhorns.

"Oh, man, it's a great transition," Robinson said. "Coach Choice, I love coach Choice. He came in. Off the bat, we had a great conversation about everything and just his faith — because me, I'm a big faith guy. God is my everything, and same for him. We even talk about the word every single day. And just his energy here, you can feel his presence — everybody can feel his presence out there, because he's the loudest one out there. But on top of that, he's going to teach you everything you need to know. And just with him coming in, a replacement for coach (Stan) Drayton because coach Drayton was my guy as well. And with him coming in, coach Choice has been a big help for me."

With each coach comes a different style of coaching, and that contrast is clear between Drayton and Choice, according to Robinson. While the latter carried a more business-like approach, Choice maintains a more relaxed atmosphere while still accomplishing what needs to get done at the day's end, according to Robinson.

"Just the energy," Robinson said. "Coach Drayton, he'll bring the energy. But he was more technician, 'We need to get things down immediately, no messing around,' type of style. And coach Choice is just we've got the music going, he's always ready to go for everything. But he still gets us honed in on what we need to do. And we make great plays, he's right down there with us. Every time we mess up, he's still right there with us, trying to get us going and get us back to focus. But they're really similar in coaching. It's just the energies are just a little different."

Robinson will look to remain a focal point of the Texas offense in 2022 as the Longhorns get set for year two of the Steve Sarkisian era. Texas opens the season at home against Louisiana-Monroe before hosting Alabama in a marquee non-conference clash one week later.
