With a new year upon us, I want to take a moment to affirm the Philadelphia Baseball Review's commitment to growing and strengthening the baseball community throughout the Philadelphia region.
We'll be covering the Phillies just as we've done in the past, but you'll also see a significant push in college and amateur baseball coverage in the coming weeks. A big part of our mission and vision is to promote baseball in the Philadelphia region. The best way to do that is to highlight the fascinating stories that litter the college and amateur scene.
There are more than two dozen college baseball programs in the Philadelphia region, along with at least a dozen academies and more than 100 high school teams.
The Philadelphia Daily News and Philadelphia Inquirer do an admirable job providing coverage of the Phillies, but neither have the resources to cover the sport beyond Citizens Bank Park.
The Philadelphia Baseball Review aims to fill that void.
Below is a sampling of the initiatives the Philadelphia Baseball Review plans to unveil over the coming weeks.
College season previews
As has been the case for the past few years, the Philadelphia Baseball Review will publish previews highlighting the majority of college programs in the Philadelphia region.
Weekly college preview
The Philadelphia Baseball Review will publish a preview piece every Friday morning looking at the weekend's action. The preview will include notes of interest and statistics, along with other pertinent information.
Weekly college wrap
Published every Sunday night, we'll look at the weekend's results and provide some highlights and insights.
College baseball podcast
Coming mid-February, we're introducing a college baseball podcast that will - in some ways - act as a voice for the Philadelphia college baseball scene. We'll include interviews, insights, and interesting discussions that provide an inside view of life playing college baseball in the Philadelphia region.
Along with these four initiatives, we'll again be announcing Player & Pitcher of the Week awards for all divisions, plus we'll be running feature stories on teams and players throughout the season.
We also anticipate providing coverage to travel tournaments and local academies throughout the year.
We've rebooted our Instagram account too, so if you're not following us there (@philadelphiabaseballreview) be sure to give us a follow.
Like so many of you, we're entering the new year with a lengthy list of aspirations and goals. We aim to deliver on each, providing you with the most comprehensive baseball coverage in the Philadelphia region.
