When the final poll was tallied, after more than 71,000 votes came pouring in, it was Monsignor Farrell running back Ethan Yak who you, the readers, selected as your choice for best offensive player this coming HS football season.
Yak accrued 34,504 tallies (48.5% of the vote), edging out Curtis RB Sam Martin, who piled up 23,333 votes (33%).
Tottenville QB Anthony Pucciarelli rounded out the top three vote-getters, garnering 6,625 votes, while McKee/Staten Island Tech RB Ryan Hourican collected 4,745 tallies.
In a backfield timeshare as a sophomore, Yak led the Lions with 561 rushing yards to go along with four scores. Though he figures to split carries again in 2020, he’s likely to be the leading man on the ground once more, and figures to add to last year’s totals as a junior.
