The Minnesota Organization for Habilitation and Rehabilitation (MOHR) gave the CHOICE, unlimited non-profit the 2020 Life Enrichment Award. It was given for their BOLD-choice Theatre outreach program. It allows people with disabilities to engage on all parts of theatrical productions from the page to the stage.
"Each play is an original production that we create on our own, and we come together and say what we want to say storyline-wise and also what we want to say to the community," said BOLD-choice Treatre director, Annie Roseen. "And to have an organization like MOHR recognize that is always encouraging."
The theatre company is made up of 30 actors that have disabilities, and take their productions on tours to schools and other organizations. The program started in 2008, but they have newer members who really enjoy being in the company.
"This is actually my first time in Bold-choice, so "Bloom" is like my first major production that I have toured," said Zach Solcom, a member of BOLD-choice Theatre. "And I'm just really honored to be involved."
They like many organizations are adapting to the challenges of COVID-19, and have held many of their weekly meetings through Zoom. They say they really look forward to performing their productions in person again when it is safe to.
