It didn’t take long for Benton’s Jada Anderson to decide where she wanted to spend the next four years.
When the Lady Tigers speedster got an offer from UL Monroe coach Brooks Donald Williams, the answer was “yes.”
“I am very excited about my ULM offer. First of all, because it was my first major Division 1 offer,” Anderson told The Times. “Committing to ULM validates all of my hard work, but I feel as if I have so much more to prove while being a part of their culture. The coaching staff made me a priority and I felt as if Monroe could be my home. #GoWarhawks!”
The 5-foot-3 Anderson was a key component in Benton’s drive to the 2020 LHSAA Class 5A state championship.
“I am really excited for Jada Anderson on her commitment to ULM. She is an unbelievable player,” Benton coach Mary Ward said. “I think it is a perfect fit for her. ULM is looking to build its women’s program and what better way than to add a player who is accustomed to winning. I have no doubt that Jada will continue her winning ways both on the court and in the classroom while at ULM.”
While she scored at a 14-point clip last season, Anderson really shines on the defensive end due to her ability to out-quick opponents to the spot they want to get to. She’s not someone you want pestering you as you bring the ball up the court.
The Times All-City first-teamer also contributed 3.7 steals, 3 assists and 2.7 rebounds last year. All those numbers are likely to increase this season as she will be the go-to player for the Lady Tigers. She teamed with 2020 ULM signee Qua Chambers to lead Benton to a 29-5 overall record last season.
“This decision couldn’t make more sense for me,” Anderson said. “Qua and I have developed chemistry over the years through school ball and AAU and I feel like together we bring a winning attitude to any program. Qua is a winner and hard worker, so playing with her again is going to be great.”
Anderson was named MVP of the 2020 state championship game.
“On this team, Qua and Jada do the scoring,” Ward said following the state championship game.”
